What is SES?

IAVM’s Senior Executive Symposium (SES) is a 4-day leadership immersion for senior-level venue managers and other individuals on a leadership track inside their organization. Co-developed by

IAVM and the faculty of Georgetown University, the program is designed to inspire leaders to lead their staff with creativity, collaboration, and a well-rounded management philosophy. SES curriculum rotates each year through four pillars of instruction.

Each area of focus is updated and offered each year, enabling senior leaders to participate annually.

What People Are Saying About SES!

SES has been included in my annual professional development investment since 2016 for two simple reasons: The content is smart and relevant, and the social experience fosters intentional connections with colleagues that is unmatched in any other industry setting. This is not a conference. It’s a charging station.

Jennifer LeMasterPresident & CEO, Seattle Convention Center

SES was instrumental in my development as a leader. The coursework, along with the opportunity to grow my network amongst my classmates, gave me the confidence and resources to tackle more complex institutional challenges.

Mac Campbell, CVE, CVPExecutive Director, Baltimore Convention Center

As a 30 year former member of IAVM, I’d have to say that the SES Program experience was hands down the best the continuing educational development offering. The program was more focused on strategy, the long-game/ big picture while the topics, the professors, the setting - balanced with the networking time with peers - made for a wonderful experience. I’d highly recommend it to any member, especially those who have already completed the VMS and GI programs.

Carl AdkinsExecutive Director, Atlanta Football Host Committee & Atlanta Basketball Host Committee

SES provided a world class instructional symposium that has informed my ability to lead in the San Diego Convention Center, in IAVM when serving on the Executive Committee and in the everyday activity of my life. Beyond the unbelievable education and the setting, I further developed lifelong relationships and added to my network of professionals and friends within the industry. You will leave immersed in creativity, visioning, management tools and a collaborative culture. It’s an executive must from my personal world view.

Clifford “Rip” Rippetoe, CVEPresident & CEO, San Diego Convention Center Corp

Having attended 3 prior SES’s in the past it has always remained the most thought provoking and inspiring professional development opportunity I have ever participated in. As a venue professional, prior to engaging in SES, I often found myself limited in the scope of thinking I was doing. SES helped me open my eyes to larger and bigger concepts that would compliment my work and enhance my critical thinking capabilities. This wonderful learning environment coupled with amazing SES networking opportunities with industry colleagues no doubt cemented my industry path and solidified to me what it meant to be a true venue professional. Thank you IAVM and thank you SES.
